The Nature of Conflict | Don at 75
http://ruminationsat73.com/2015/02/22/the-nature-of-conflict
Ethics – Living Life Well. The Nature of Conflict. This is a paper I wrote for a course in Mediation at Regis University in May 1998. It was the initial paper written for the course. I loved this class, so much to understand and put into practice. I considered going on and taking the examination to become a licensed Mediator, probably should have done that. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. The Nature of Conflict. PASSION AS A SOURCE OF GROWTH. CONFLICT, A CATALYST FOR GOOD. Crain defines conflict as a situation ...

Ethics – Living Life Well. Neutrality and Impartiality, A Difficult Balance. Neutrality and Impartiality A Difficult Balance. Neutrality is at times a graver sin than belligerence (Justice Brandeis, edited by Solomon Goldman, 1954). Damned Neuters, in their Middle way of Steering. Are neither Fish, nor Flesh, nor good Red Herring. John Dryden, English poet, dramatist, critic, as cited in The Great Quotations, Seldes, G. 1993. It would seem that with the variety of subtle, and not so subtle, variations th...

Ethics – Living Life Well. Fast forward to Regis University in Denver in the year 2000 when I wrote the first version of this paper. I have since pulled out some of the books from my original army language school and made some updates and revisions, not a lot of changes. Hope you enjoy this. ESSENCE OF A PEOPLE. Language is the tool used to create and express the symbols used my human memory to create those hooks. To truly understand a culture one must understand the language. Edward Sapir suggests that ...
The Lake | Don at 75

Ethics – Living Life Well. Some of the most enduring memories of my childhood are centered around Lake McConaughy. For those of you who might not be familiar with this it is a very large lake 8 or so miles north of Ogallala Nebraska. Lake McConaughy is Nebraska’s biggest lake and the largest reservoir in a four state region. At full storage, Lake Mac is twenty miles long, four miles wide, and 142 feet deep at the dam. I also remember the boat trailer that I think was home made. I do remember manning ...

Ethics – Living Life Well. Archive for the category “New Posts”. From Hopelessness to Prosperity. I am posting a series of articles written by my daughter Jackie Henke for her church blog. To put these in perspective I am copying a paragraph she uses at the end of the blog. From Hopelessness to Prosperity. I did very well in kindergarten and first grade. In fact, my first grade teacher, Ms. Gerard, was amazing! During quiet time, the day before the end of camp, I read my bible and I came across Jeremiah ...

Ruminations and Ramifications
Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Fortunate and prosperous are those who are not spiritually arrogant, for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 5:3, the Marcian Amplified Version of the NASB. Posted by Marcian @ 4:31 AM. Saturday, June 07, 2014. This is where I am right now. So, what is new. So, wow, THREE and a HALF days off! What does one DO with that time? Okay So now what? The profit I'm talking about is not of the fiduciary kind. The profit I refer to is spiritual. Learn Gregg Shorthand. Be fluent. After ...
RUMINATIONS and RECKONINGS
Capturing thoughts and reflections on life. Jul 12, 2015. Field Trip to Missouri Star Quilt Company. Middot; 2 Comments. A few weeks ago by sister, brother-in-law, Dave and I took a day trip about an hour or so north of Kansas City to a small town called Hamilton, Missouri. Prior to 2008, this small town was best known for it’s most famous son, J.C. Penney, a retailer and philanthropist. I had become acquainted with the Missouri Star Quilt Company. What a story this small town now has! Jun 17, 2015.

Ruminations and Regurgitations
A place for those on the journey with Jesus to share and ruminate on new ideas, and to regurgitate and process old ideas about life, faith, and ministry. Tuesday, April 6, 2010. Okay I admit that I am excited that baseball season has started. The Seattle Mariners began yesterday with a win; so for now at least I rejoice over a team that is in first place and undefeated. Closer to home, my son's little league team has their first game this week too. Is that something you hope for? After one of the most di...

Nepal
Sunday, March 10, 2013. Language, Kathmandu and the Things I LOVE! Well I'm back in Kathmandu! This time for some intense language study. We will be here for a month working hard. We meet with our language teacher every day and I am enjoying it. The other thing we will work on is our research. My research will be about rites of passage in an ethnic group in Far West Nepal. I am excited to learn more about this and expand my knowledge on Nepal and its culture. I'm living my dream! Friday, January 11, 2013.

Things to Think About. Everything is Connected to Everything Else. EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED TO EVERYTHING ELSE. All despotisms, under whatever name they masquerade, are efforts to freeze history, to stop change, to solidify the human spirit. (Charles Austin Beard). In all of history the dynamics (read changes) of an age are marked not by stability but by the conflict between stability and change. Historically the ultimate winner is always change . In my humble opinion that is pathetic. Damned Neuters, in ...

Ruminations of an Incremental Nature
Ruminations of an Incremental Nature. Tuesday, December 23, 2014. I spent the better part of the last two weekends with this lovely boy: Noah, my 5 year old grandson. Together we baked a few dozen cookies and some sweet breads for holiday gatherings, decorated the cabin and worked on Christmas cards. He also played with Legos while I took some time to work on my pile of grading. One of the best part of our two weekends was just watching him play with things he found around the house. I do not remember ev...

Early Bird Dining and Whining. Friday, September 18, 2009. A Rosh Hashana message. Labels: remembering loved ones. Billo, maybe you're not such a pillo. Today I heard that Bill O'Reilly , according to the Huffington Post, "supports the creation of a government managed health care plan if it provides working Americans with an affordable option to other than private insurance plans." What! Bill O'Reilly said this on Fox News? Wednesday, September 16, 2009. The case of the maiden name saga. El Pollo Poco II.

ruminations by the lake
Ruminations by the lake. As much as there are some paddlers who will seek and find whatever liquid surface remains on the lake through the winter, there is the flip side. people who relish the frozen surface, maybe hiking to alpine ponds in search of skateable ice in October. We just had a few days of cold weather, one morning clocking in at minus 20 to 30 F depending on where in the state. I asked Phelps to let me know when there was some skateable ice in the islands, and the answer was now. Much of the...
