As you can see the entire bottom of the rear cowl and airplane have been cut off. I placed a tape line on the plane and started removing everything under the line. This was done to help streamline the air flow at higher speeds. Above you'll notice that I have started filling the shape and contour with foam and fiberglass. Four pipe internal exhaust system. Attached are a few pictures that were taken while flying the east coast line of Lake Michigan with Long EZ's. N55GR and N7VN flown by Gary Ernest. In addition, there are also some great shots of a few other flying Long EZ's. Above, N55GR around 3000 ft. This is what she looked like after the new engine, downdraft cooling, shaved undercarriage, new upper and lower cowlings, new prop and the new paint. The aircraft taking the picture is N7VN , Long EZ. Gary is wonderful friend and always fun to fly with.

The first thing I had to do was cut areas out for the 4 pipe exhaust and the wider angle valve cylinders just to get the cowl on the engine. You can see the valve covers through the holes on each side of the cowling. Foam was added to the cut out areas to build up the cowling. The foam was shaped and sanded to the contour that I was happy with. Then several layers (4 to 5) of fiberglass was epoxy'ed over the foam. Avionics & Electrical. This is a “Long” story and it hasn’t always been “EZ”! It started in Clearwater, Ks (near Wichita) and is drawing to a close in Tucson, AZ. I have been in Aviation virtually all of my life in the Avionics field. I have flown a 1978 Turbo Arrow, which I owned with a partner. Well, I sold the Arrow in 2005 and bought a 1955 Bonanza!
